Kendra’s Cookies was created as a result of a dream…literally. I awoke from a nap with my youngest daughter where I dreamed I was designing a cookie web site. I grabbed a pen and a legal pad and began writing my ideas down. Fast forward a few months and the dream became a reality.
In the early days, not only was I spreading myself thin taking care of a newborn, but I also offered too many cookies choices that made it difficult to maintain inventory for the orders I received. I considered giving up. During this time, I watched an episode of The Rachael Ray Show centered around Mom’s who took simple ideas and turned them into successful businesses. I was initially a bit envious of the level of success that they had reached until I asked myself what was preventing me from being successful. I definitely had creativity (which often got me into trouble when I was younger) as well as over 11 years of business experience and the tenacity to see my dream through. I used the entrepreneurial spirit of the women I saw on TV that day to empower me. With the help of a marketing guru friend from high school, I narrowed down the cookie choices I offered and focused on perfecting sugar cookies, my specialty.
Kendra’s Cookies specializes in irresistible, hand-decorated sugar cookies for every taste and occasion. When starting this company, my challenge was to create a tasty product from scratch that used everyday ingredients that could deliver a fresh, home-baked taste. Based on the feedback I’ve received, I’ve met my goal. I’ve had the honor of creating orders for Tysons Corner Center, Yelp.com, Breaux Vineyards, Dina Manzo (formerly of RHONJ), Audi, Virginia Commonwealth University and various other Virginia government agencies.
I couldn’t have begun this business without the unwavering support of my husband David, my Mother-in-Law, Donna, my “cookies” Lauren & Hannah, my friend Cindy who was always available to listen, the creative tech team of Adam and Brooke who designed my logo and my original website, my friend Glenn who offered so much marketing help and advice that I’ll be forever indebted to him and the slew of friends who helped spread the word about Kendra’s Cookies as well as placed orders and continue to do so. I also have a list of “Cookie Monsters”, those friends who have ordered so often that I keep their contact information on a corkboard above my computer: Lisa R., Allison F., and John G.
